School Visits and Field Trips

Hey Teachers!

Looking for a fun and educational activity to do with your class?

Try silkscreening with me!

I’ve been teaching silkscreening to thousands of kids and adults for over 3 decades and I absolutely LOVE it!

I can come to you, or you can bring your class to my fun and funky studio in Toronto’s Queen West neighbourhood. I even teach online!

Workshops can be as short as a few hours, or I can teach absolutely everything you need to know about silkscreening over 4 or 5 days.

I also love to help schools and community centers set up their own silkscreening studio so they can continue on after my visit - and it’s easier to do and less expensive than you might think!

Craftivism

One of my favourite themes for silkscreen workshops (especially with kids and teens) is “Craftivism”.

Have you heard of Craftivism before? It’s simply using a craft as a means of activism. I help the group come up with ideas for causes that they care about, and then ways to create art to spread awareness about that cause.

They can make tee-shirts, tote bags or just about anything else to spread their message, and young people REALLY get into it!

I see them come alive with ideas, super inspired about the idea of having a voice for something they care about through art!

They often also come up with ideas to raise funds for their cause by selling tee-shirts or other printed items.

It’s such a winning formula - they learn a new skill, they get creative and they see how they can make change in the world around something that matters to them!

Silkscreening is for EVERYONE!

I’ve taught kids as young as 4 to silkscreen, and it truly is a medium that all ages can enjoy! Even teenagers LOVE it - and we all know how hard it can be to please teenagers sometimes!

I’m a visual arts teaching partner with the TDSB and have experience working with all kinds of young people in public and private schools, community groups and more.

I’ve also had the privilege of teaching silkscreening to individuals from historically marginalized communities, including those who have been impacted by the criminal justice system, individuals with severe disabilities, and others of all ages facing unique challenges.

Through tailored educational programs and inclusive teaching approaches, I’ve been able to provide valuable skills and creative outlets to empower and support these individuals. It’s been truly rewarding to witness the transformative power of art in fostering personal growth, self-expression, and community engagement among those who have traditionally been underserved or misunderstood by society.

Seeing the pride folks feel when they make something they can use makes my job super fun! I love being able to pass on such an awesome craft.

Whoever makes up your group, and wherever they are, I would LOVE to share the joy of silkscreening with them!

Here are just a few examples of happy kids and teens- and the things they made- from my Instagram

Thanks for reading this far! I really love what I do and it’s such a joy to be able to share it with others!

Here’s a picture of me teaching in a school just after lockdowns ended. I remember being SO happy to be able to be out in the community doing what I love so much!

“Highly recommended!!

The silkscreen class is very detailed and at the same time easy to understand. Well worth the cost! If you are interested in doing screen printing at home then you will learn how to do this without buying costly equipment.

If you just want to make some unique items for yourself then you can do that too. I went home with some awesome t shirts but you can make whatever you like there. Lots of fun too!”

“[Kingi] was very fun & helpful to work with. We learned how to print through her knowledge & hands on approach. We used shirts & tote bags to learn print & afterwards had the skills & knowledge to be able to do it on our own if we chose to do so. She showed us the tricks of the trade & how to print in a budget-friendly way. Highly recommended, she has loads of experience & knowledge to impart on those willing to learn.”

So what are you waiting for? Let’s get silkscreening going for your class or group!

Just give me a call at  647 740 1141 and we’ll start planning!
